Moving up in the ranks takes more than you'd think:

• Time
  Most people assume that as soon as you have a site or submit it to Google that it will show up, this is false.  It can take weeks or months before your site will start to show up.  It's better to start now then later since it takes it a while to get into the system.
• Continuously Changing Content
  Search engines love "new" content, so having something on your home page that changes at least once or twice a month is ideal.  This content must also use your keywords.
• Exposure
  Getting your name out there, through social networking, blogging, newsletters, links on other sites, online advertising, etc.  The more search engines see your name in different places the better your site will rank.
